The Upeo wa Macho ("The Horizon" in Swahili) are the teleportation psi order, formerly based out of the United African Nations. It is overseen by Proxy Bolade Atwan.

History

Following a dream for easy and common space travel, Bolade Atwan spent decades building up her company, Kusafiri Ukomo (Unlimited Travel), although it was limited to commercial air and ground transport. After becoming a proxy, she found her dreams fulfilled, and began searching for latents with the rare capacity for teleportation to fill the ranks of her new psi order.

In 2115, the Upeo discovered Eden, a world full of novas seemingly unafflicted with Corruption. Remembering what happened to the Chitra Bhanu just a 2111 few years before, she waited two months before telling the other proxies. She wanted a backup plan.

Her fears were proven correct, and before the other orders could strike, the entire order evacuated into space, vanishing from Earth and establishing a new headquarters on Ruan's World. The remained in exile for over seven years, only returning in 2123.

Organization

The order has a number of departments, referred to informally as "chama" (Swahili for "club") representing each of the order's major roles.

• The Long Riders: the noetic version of the Pony Express, they can send packages ranging from a single bottle of medicine to a spaceship with full crew nearly anywhere in the galaxy in less than an hour.
• Kupita ("beyond"): The most powerful jumpers and many clairsentients explore and map new areas of interstellar space, and also control the order's own spacecraft.
• Mwitu ("wolf"): First responders, who can rescue trapped workers or bring emergency supplies in mere moments.
• Wawindaji ("hunter"): The small and elite militant wing of the order created during their exile.
• The nguzo ("pillar"): The neutral support staff who keep the order running.

Background Information

• The Upeo wa Macho had their origins in Æon's first edition rulebook, although they had not yet returned from exile by that point. Accordingly, they weren't detailed until the Stellar Frontiers supplement.
