The Suzumebachi Group, known colloquially as the Swarm, is a corporation based out of Japan which promises to take even the humblest office drone and transform them into a deadly weapon with only a short instructional course. They specialize in killing other Inspired.[1]

History[]

Tokyo's Azegami Union, a yakuza-associated group whose funds came from illegal gambling, blackmail, and extorsion, found their fortunes dwindling during the Lost Decade of the 1990s. In order to save the Union succumbing to economic decline, patriarch Kenjirō Hiroshi sought the assistance of childhood friend, eccentric businessman, and ex-yakuza Takashi Inoue. Takashi proposed a new model which could train anyone to the equivalent of one of Kenjirō's yakuza in only two weeks of training.

The success of the program, and investments from the Union, allowed the two to create the Suzumebachi Group. In addition to a number of mundane development workshops about health and personal empowerment, their two-week Hornet Workshops forge the creation of Assassins. While most of the recruits went on to work on behalf of the Azegami Union, Takashi secretly offered the workshops to others as well, for the right price.

The success of the Suzumebachi Groups in turn fed back into the Azegami Union, which game one of the top three Yakuza organizations in Japan. However over the following decades, as various crackdowns chipped away at the Union, the Swarm has become the dominant partner in the pair.

Organization[]

Technically speaking the "Swarm" only refers to the Assassins within the Suzumebachi Group, but this distinction is lost on most.

The Group isn't just set up as a business consultancy on the outside, but internally as well. Promotions and transfers occur along standard corporate lines.

Prestige among the Swarm, however, is graded starting at Rank D and progressing up through Rank A and then Rank S, with each rank affording more pay and privileges.

Directing the Swarm are the Executive Committee, the very best of the Swarm's Assassins, each of which has achieved Rank S (although not all members of this rank are in the Committee).

The Swarm find themselves in a delicate dance with the Nakato Association, who are simultaneously yakuza rivals of the Azegami Union and suppliers of arms and technology to the Swarm.
