The Signal is a pirate radio broadcast bringing together disparate cells of Assassins or individual freelancers together in order to solve injustices. People are occasionally able to call into or email the Host about a problem they're having, who will then dispatch Assassins to put a stop to the problem. The Signal is concerned more with the cause than the payment.[1]
History[]
The Signal began broadcasting to oppressed communities, mostly American communities of color, sermonizing about the forces oppressing them and speaking truth to power. They built a regular following, until the Host started speaking directly to the community about addressing their societal ills. Then Assassins entered the mix.
An irregular call-in show based on a secret schedule would have the community reporting who was hurting them; contracts would then go out to Assassins to deal with the problem.
The Signal soon went international, with targeted shows globally connecting Assassins with people in need. Today, they've gone digital, with hundreds of shows broadcast across the globe.
Organization[]
Operating more like a flash mob than a true organization, the Signal nonetheless sends a representative to the Council. Others balk at their presumption, but the Signal doesn't care.
There are a number of cells which work regularly (or even exclusively) with the Signal, which are often called "partners." Some partners include:
- The Pavlyuchenko Society: Primarily Assassins of marginalized genders operating out of Philadelphia. In addition to their contract work, they provide resources for gender-affirming health services to members.
- The Martyrs are the Pavlyuchenko's most vigorous members, forming the Signal's moral and infrastructural backbone. They provide mentorship, connect Assassins with any training they need, and to the communities who need them, and keep an eye on the mental health of members -- especially LGBTQIA+ assassins.
- The Guardians: A group of vigilantes in East Africa focused on punshing the corruption of police and military officials in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
- The Night Worker's Union: An unofficial sponsor of several local worker's rights groups in the United Arab Emirates.
- Demimonde is a secretive social network for sex worker mutual aid. More often the clients than the Assassins themselves.
Other organizations:
- La Révolte Éclatante often partners with Assassins of the Signal as part of their revolutionary efforts.
- The Black Cat Network are a group of idealist hackers who provide hacking support and cybersecurity to the Signal when needed.
Background Information[]
- The Signal -- an organization of loosely-allied cells taking orders from a mysterious voice -- shares a number of similarities with the Pharaoh's Lightkeepers.
