The Legions are the psychokinesis Psi Order based out of Australia, and are a semi-independent division of the United Nations military dedicated to protecting the world from external threats. It is overseen by Proxy General Solveig Larssen.[1]
History[]
After the Aberrant War, the UN's power grew, but the UN Military Command was hobbled by archaic doctrine, antiquated equipment, and troops with divided loyalties. Captain Solveig Larssen proposed some radical theories, and in 2091 was given an opportunity to prove them, and began recruiting for the UN Home Guard.
The Home Guard's troops were sworn to the UN, and were not loaned national soldiers, so they had no divided loyalties, and could deploy swiftly anywhere in the solar system. By 2100, the company had grown to a full brigade.
After a leave of absence, Brigadier Larssen began covertly reorganizing the Home Guard using an arcane selection process for troops to receive "special training." Rumors flew about what the Home Guard was up to, which were revealed to the world in 2106 when the Legions arrived on the scene to defend Sydney Spaceport against Aberrant attack.
Organization[]
The psi order is, as the name implies, divided into a number of different Legions. Each Legion has its own focus and internal structure. Inspired by the Maori recruits in the early years of the First Legion, each Legion has their own set of distinct "smart" face tattoos which can be deactivated with an antihistamine derm, but this is seen as a trend rather than a dress requirement.
- First Legion: The Home Guard, which defends Australia. Although the most direct descendant of the original Home Guard, the definition of "home" has narrowed focus considerably.
- Second Legion: Fortune's Knights. Founded in 2107 have picked up the responsibilities of the original Home Guard, and are ready to deploy around the world.
- Third Legion: Support Command. The largest Legion, albeit a non-combat force, with the fewest psions. The Third is responsible for quartermaster duties, training, medical, administration, and research. They manage the order's Prometheus Chamber.
- Fourth Legion: Vigiles Mundi. A close combat assault force who want to take the fight to the Aberrants.
- Fifth Legion: Thunder of the Americas. The Thunderbolts patrol the Americas like the First patrol Australia. Not much activity is needed in now Sudamérica with the Venezuelan Plaguelands under containment, and their presence in North America is tolerated under the Legions' Aberrant Suppression Treaty (LAST) surrounding Wycoff's Blight.
- Sixth Legion: Europe's Aegis. The Shieldbearers protect Europe, and are kept very busy with all the regimes, rebellions, and La Blessure.
- Seventh Legion: Phoenix Fleet. The Firebirds formed after the Chromatic attack on the Karroo Mining Colony. Aerospace assets from the First and Second Legions, technical talent from the Third, and vacuum-qualified infantry from the Fourth formed a team of expert fighter pilots and space marines.
Background Information[]
- The Legions had their origins in Æon's first edition rulebook. Originally they were essentially a private military company, but were updated to be a branch of the UN in the new edition.
