Flux (specifically dimensional flux) is the energy generated when two parallel dimensions get near to each other, something akin to the heat generated when two objects rub against each other. Accordingly, "flux events" are one-time situations events in which a crossover occurs, and something might pass through that dimensional barrier.[1][2]

"Luck" in the Trinity Continuum is largely a subconscious manipulation of flux energy by a sentient mind in order to nudge probabilities. In a sense, copying a more favorable result from a nearby universe. As with more mundane skills, such as piano prodigies or math whizzes, some people are better at this subconscious harnessing of flux. Accordingly, as they are more talented, they are referred to as Talents.

Talents harness flux to a greater degree than most of the populace in order to transform the world around them in subtle ways. This manifests as the appearance of extraordinary luck or skill on the part of the Talent, specifically in the form of Gifts or Dramatic Editing.[3]

Since the manipulation of flux is something everyone does to some degree, it's exceedingly difficult to pin down any individual Talent as being a Talent, or simply someone who is "merely" lucky or skilled. It's questionable whether there's a difference at all, because luck is the manipulation of flux.

The Æon Society created a number of projects with the goal of examining different emanations of flux: Project Argonaut investigates Strange Places, Project Cyclops investigates living plants and creatures altered by flux, Project Talos researched flux-imbued objects, and Project Tantalus researches Talents. After the disappearance of Talos in 1963, flux research was amalgamated under Polyphemus, with only Project Tantalus continuing to operate independently.[4][5]

Flux should not be confused with Quantum Flux.
