Backstory[]
History[]
Four million years ago, the Doyen were a psychic species that evolved 7,000 light years from Earth. After exploring the stars they determined that most species either destroyed themselves or were destroyed by others. To prevent this the Doyen rushed their ascension into purely psychic beings made up of noetic energy.
The process was not perfect and Doyen realized that while they were effectively immortal they did have weaknesses. Their new bodies couldn't age or die of disease, but they were vunerable to noetic or quantum forces. And that in the presence of too much quantum they became significantly weaker.
Most Doyen proceeded to safeguard their species by preventing other species from ascending like they did. They even secretly subjugate other species like the Qin; causing them to think that their noetic powers aren't able to be enhanced enough to transcend their physical bodies. Rare Quantum species being too dangerous to Doyens would be destroyed, such as the Bullseye inhabitants. Humanity on the other hand possessed both noetic and quantum potential, which fascinated and horrified the Doyen. The main faction of Doyen seek to tame humanity in the same way they did the Qin, while another wishes to wipe it out.
First Contact[]
When the Hammersmith Incident occurred, the telluric energies not only created the first Inspired, but were detected by the Doyen. To prevent humanity from progressing further, the Doyen created an energy barrier that limited future empowering events to the size of a small city or town.
Michael Daemon Donighal tried recreating the Hammersmith Incident with Quantum. This led to N-Day and the start of the Nova Age and created many Novas. The aftermath of the Aberrant War created phenomena called Corrupted Zones, areas bathed in Quantum Flux.
Second Contact[]
Sara Kaur in an effort to revert the Corrupted Zones to their pre-Quantum Flux states created a noetic event that led to the creation of new Talents, Psiads, and latent Psions. This got the attention of the Doyen who proceeded with interfering with humanity more directly than before.
The Doyen sent visions to various people on Earth of the impending return of the Aberrants. Those who accepted the offer became Proxies, those who ignored the warning had the offer erased from their memory. Seven people accepted the offer, additionally Sara Kaur was possessed by a Doyen and forced to become a Proxy. The Doyen wanted to study Sara's use of Quantakinesis so it gave them the ability to do so.
The Doyen brought the proxies to the Moon and proceded to perform noetic surgery to unlock the Proxies latent abilities, but limited them to using only one aptitude type each. The Doyen made sure to do this so humanity didn't progress too fast. They gave the proxies the Prometheus Chambers to replicate this noetic surgery, but because it was not personalized to each individual the new psions would have to grow into their powers instead of having all their potential unlocked like the proxies did.
The Doyen also guided which planets humanity discovered first. They gave Otha Herzog the coordinates for Far Nyumba, Crab Nebula, and Qinshui.
A faction of anti-human Doyen prsented themselves as gods to the Chromatics who had encountered hostile Aberrants. These Doyen influenced the Chromatics to be convinced that humanity would come to wage war against them.
