The Æon Trinity is the latest incarnation of a 200-year-old organization dedicated to improving the world and helping people reach their full potential. Although their official motto represents the three core tenets of the Trinity — Hope, Sacrifice, and Unity — to many people across settled space, the motto may as well be "I'm from Æon, and I'm here to help."[1][2][3][4]
History[]
Founded in 1923 as the Æon Society for Gentlemen, and then re-dedicated as a covenant to humanity in the wake of the Aberrant War, the organization renamed itself the Æon Trinity at the dawn of the 22nd century; an organization most of humanity had learned to trust and place their faith in.
The Trinity came to even more prominence when psions revealed themselves to the world during the 2106 attack on the Sydney spaceport, stepping up and acting as a guide and unifier for all the psi orders. They share the goal of protecting and bringing out the potential of humanity.
Organization[]
As venerable organization with a 200-year history, Æon has a complex structure of divisions, factions, and departments:
- Neptune Division is concerned with communication, although most people think of it as the administration or command division.
- The Chiron Initiative are teachers, counselors, and mentors who travel into areas where their skills are needed most, either in less-populated or oppressed areas of Earth or in distant colonies.
- The Clymene Initiative is the public face of the Trinity, either as PR specialists or public media personalities.
- The Maxwell Mercer Foundation is the charitable and fund-raising wing.
- The Medea Initiative is dedicated to memetic counterterroristm.
- The Mercury Initiative Professional diplomats and negotiators. Split from Clymene due to increased demand.
- The Thetis Initiative is a sort of internal affairs designed to prevent internal corruption in the first place, ensuring the organization stays true to its original goals.
- Triton Division is concerned with hard and soft sciences, as well as data collection and analysis.
- Nereus Labs is devoted to bleeding-edge scientific research and development.
- Project Argus agents make use of technology, psi powers, and social engineering to spy, hack, or surveil. They track Aberrant sightings, prevent metacorp takeovers, destroy dangerous data, and more.
- Project Ceto, originally the research branch of Project Utopia, exists to study Aberrants and their superhuman abilities.
- Project Cyclops was founded to study unusual plants and animals, and has branched out into xenobiology, studying Qin medical databases and the recovered cadavers of Chromatic and Coalition aliens.
- Project Pandora was founded in the 20th century to study psychic abilities, and study to further human understanding of psi powers.
- Project Tantalus has the vague remit to study the extraordinary capabilities of some humans who have neither psionic nor quantum abilities.
- Proteus Division are the largest division, the "hand" of Æon, concerned with field operational duties.
- Section Apollo are in charge of aerospace operations, with pilots training in single-occupant hybrid fighters all the way up to Leviathan jumpships.
- Section Juno are investigative consultants, helping authorities solve crimes, catch terrorists, and locate missing people.
- Section Mars are responsible for training and internal security. Most new Trinity agents who will be doing field work are required to go through Mars "boot camp."
- Section Titan are unlike the rest of Proteus in that they're soldiers and not security forces: they're trained to strike against Aberrants and hostile alien forces, either on foot or suited into a VARG.
- Section Minerva: Officially, there's no such thing. These handpicked deniable assets report directly to the Æon Council and are only identifiable by small lighthouse-shaped pins.
- The Babel Dossier contains all the secrets the Trinity deems too dangerous for the world to know about, and too dangerous or difficult to destroy. It's housed in an underground bunker in a top-secret location.
- Section Atreus are a former Project Tantalus offshoot tasked with investigating probability-related phenomena, but split off after its Director grew paranoid of the intentions of the Trinity.
In an organization as large as Æon, not everything is easily categorized, and there are a number of inter-agency operations:
- Operation Argonaut: Resurrecting the name of an old branch dedicated to exploration, Argonaut is Æon's name for the Leviathan jumpship program.
- Operation Panacea: Launched post-Crash, Panacea fights against disease, malnutrition, and injury in areas devastated by Aberrant attacks.
- Operation ReWrite: The second post-Crash Operation, ReWrite was created to recover as much pre-Crash data as possible, as well as selectively deleting any information containing to Aberrant technologies, squirreling it away with the Babel Dossier.
- Operation Vesta: The third post-Crash Operation, Vesta was intended to restore infrastructure, industry, and residential zones destroyed in the Aberrant War, Crash, or more recent tragedies like the Esperanza tragedy.
- Operation Utopia follow the basic goals of the earlier Project: helping those with power use that power in a healthy and responsible manner, employing social scientists, futurists, and consultants to do so.
Access Level[]
The Trinity's Access level is rank, security clearance, and general status combined, but doesn't necessarily translate into command authority.
It's rumored there's an "ultraviolet" rank for members of the Æon Council.[5]
Background Information[]
- The Æon Trinity has its origins in Æon's 1st edition rulebook, and in fact is the source of the name of the game line in both its 1e incarnations (both Æon and Trinity).
- The symbol is a stylized Greek letter psi (Ψ), representing all psions, divided into three sections, representing the Trinity.
- The "Trinity" in question has variably been explained as representing the three divisions — Neptune, Triton, Proteus — or the three tenets of Æon — Hope, Sacrifice, and Unity.
